Born Hiralal in 1876 in a village of Aurangabad district, Maharashtra, he kept celibacy from youth and gave his time to teaching religion. In 1923 he took kshullak diksha from Acharya Shantisagar, and in 1924 at Samdoli (Sangli) he received muni diksha as Muni Veersagar — the first muni disciple of the acharya who had revived the Digambara monk tradition. He spent many years walking with his guru, learning the discipline of the muni life at first hand.
In 1955, as Shantisagar prepared for sallekhana at Kunthalgiri, he named Veersagar his successor; the acharya seat was formally given to him at Khaniyaji, Jaipur. Veersagar's sangh travelled widely in Rajasthan and nearby regions and gave many dikshas, including the muni diksha of his successor Shivsagar and the aryika diksha of Gyanmati Mataji in 1956. Known for his strict austerity, he attained samadhi at Khaniyaji on 23 September 1957.
