Abhinandananatha

“Rejoicing” — remembered less as a story than in the daily hymns to the twenty-four.

The story

His name means “rejoicing”, and the explanation given is that Indra came again and again to rejoice over the child. No longer narrative survives for him.

What the tradition preserves instead is hymn. He has his place in every twenty-four-fold devotional sequence — the Chaturvimshati Stava recited daily, and Acharya Samantabhadra's Svayambhu Stotra, which gives each Tirthankara his own verses. Some of the twenty-four are remembered as lives; some are remembered as verses.
